No, you can provide access to Gemini for Education and NotebookLM without changing your primary productivity suite. You will need to establish a domain with Google and set up school-issued accounts, at no cost, in order to enable access to Google AI tools (see our Quickstart IT Setup Guide for step-by-step information). This allows you to turn on/off the services you want, enable them for everyone at your institution or specific user groups, and ensures that you are covered by enterprise-grade data protections.

You will first need to establish a domain with Google by completing our online sign-up flow and verify that you own your domain. You will then get access to an Admin console where you can set up school-issued Google accounts, turn on/off specific services (Like Gemini for Education, NotebookLM, etc.), and more. Our Quickstart IT Setup Guide provides helpful, step-by-step information.

If you already have a domain established with Google and have provisioned accounts, you can simply enable Gemini in your Admin console.

Gemini for Education and NotebookLM are core services, meaning they’re covered under the Google Workspace for Education Terms of Service and include enterprise-grade data protections. This means your data is not reviewed by humans or otherwise used to improve our AI models. Additionally, Gemini and NotebookLM support compliance with a number of industry regulations, including COPPA and FERPA.
